collateralized bond obligation (CBO) A form of collateralized debt obligation (CDO) that backed by a portfolio of bonds. The bonds may be secured or unsecured, issued by corporations or sovereign obligors and may be senior or junior. The CDOs may comprise a particular group of bonds or may be any combination thereof.
